To compare different nanoparticle-based nasal vaccines against foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), chitosan (CS)-coated poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) (CS/PLGA-NPs) and amino-functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Am/MSNs) loaded with FMDV recombinant plasmid (pP12A3C/IFN-CS/PLGA-NPs and pP12A3C/IFN-Am/MS-NPs) were used to induce mucosal and systemic immune responses in guinea pigs via intranasal delivery.
