Salmonella is a foodborne pathogen that can develop resistance to different stresses, which is essential for successful infection of the host. Some genes directly related to acid resistance are also involved in cationic peptide resistance in Gram-negative bacteria and could be under the control of quorum sensing (QS) mediated by autoinducer 1, known as acyl-homoserine lactone.
