NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide)-dependent protein deacylases, namely, the sirtuins, are important cell adaptor proteins that alter cell physiology in response to low calorie conditions. They are thought to mediate the beneficial effects of calorie restriction to extend longevity and improve health profiles.
