Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely associated with low-grade chronic inflammation which is usually induced by intestinal dysbiosis. As ferulic acid (FA) has been proven effective at improving the intestinal integrity, we aimed to determine the effect of dietary FA on NAFLD development in high-fat dieted (HFD) mice, a well-established model of NAFLD. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed either a normal chow diet (ND) or HFD with or without FA (40 mg/kg) orally for 6 weeks. FA significantly alleviated lipid metabolism disorder and reduced liver inflammation in HFD mice (P < 0.05).
